Wednesday, we toured the
Beckley Coal Mines
Our tour guide did a demonstration of lighting an ANTIQUE MINER'S CARBIDE LANTERN which involved a loud pop! At that point, Leah reverted to this position. (Only seen once before, upon the arrival of the chef at Shogun) She didn't come out of this position until I asked her if she wanted "to see the dead bird" that the guide was displaying for everyone!
Seth was quite inquisitive. It's a good thing that this guy wasn't dependent on a script. He was listening to everything and asking all sorts of questions. In this particular shot, the guide was showing Seth (and the rest of us too) a shovel that was small for the young boys to use. He asked Seth if he wanted to try it out, to which Seth replied, "No, I have one of those at home." Um... little side note... no he doesn't! He only has tiny plastic ones to go with his little sand pails. But, it's all the same to him!)We also took some time to tour the pre-coal mining and post-coal mining homesteads.
